Anthropic, the AI safety company behind the Claude family of models, has closed a $5 billion Series D funding round at a $60 billion valuation. The round was led by Google, with significant participation from Spark Capital, Salesforce Ventures, and sovereign wealth funds from Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

The company plans to use the capital to expand its research team, build additional data center capacity, and accelerate the development of its next-generation AI systems. Anthropic has grown its revenue to an annualized $4 billion, up from $900 million a year ago.

CEO Dario Amodei emphasized that safety research remains the company's core mission, with approximately 40 percent of the new funding earmarked for alignment and interpretability research programs.
