Figure AI has deployed its second-generation humanoid robots at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina manufacturing plant, where the machines are performing assembly tasks alongside human workers on the X5 and X7 production lines.
The Figure 02 robots handle repetitive tasks including inserting body panel fasteners, applying adhesive strips, and inspecting weld quality using integrated vision systems. Each robot operates at roughly 85 percent of the speed of an experienced human worker but can run three consecutive shifts without breaks.
BMW has committed to deploying 50 additional Figure 02 units across its global manufacturing operations by the end of 2026, contingent on continued performance metrics from the South Carolina pilot program.
