Synchron, a brain-computer interface company, has demonstrated a non-invasive neural device that translates thoughts directly into text at speeds reaching 120 words per minute. The device, called the Stentrode V3, is implanted through the jugular vein and rests in a blood vessel near the motor cortex without requiring open brain surgery.
In clinical trials with five paralyzed patients, the system achieved 97% accuracy after a two-week calibration period. Participants were able to compose emails, browse the web, and control smart home devices using thought alone.
