Amazon has announced the deployment of 10,000 autonomous mobile robots across 35 of its U.S. fulfillment centers, marking the largest single expansion of warehouse robotics in the company's history. The robots, developed by Amazon's robotics division in partnership with Agility Robotics, handle package sorting, shelf stocking, and inventory movement tasks.

The Digit-based bipedal robots work alongside human employees, handling repetitive lifting and transport tasks that contribute to workplace injuries. Amazon says the deployment has reduced workplace injury rates at equipped facilities by 28 percent while increasing order processing speed by 18 percent.

Amazon emphasized that the robots are designed to work collaboratively with human employees rather than replace them. The company says it has hired 15,000 new workers this year to manage, maintain, and work alongside the robotic systems, and has invested $200 million in retraining programs for existing employees who want to transition into robotics management roles.
