Anthropic has launched Claude 4, its latest AI model featuring significantly improved reasoning capabilities and a novel safety architecture called Constitutional AI 2.0. The model matches or exceeds GPT-5 on most benchmarks while setting new standards for reliable, harmless AI behavior.

Claude 4's standout feature is extended thinking, which allows the model to reason through complex problems step-by-step before generating responses. This approach dramatically improves performance on math, coding, and multi-step reasoning tasks while providing transparency into the model's thought process.

The Constitutional AI 2.0 framework introduces a new approach to alignment where the model is trained to follow nuanced principles rather than rigid rules. This results in fewer refusals on legitimate queries while maintaining strong guardrails against genuinely harmful uses.

The model supports a 500,000 token context window and native tool use, enabling it to browse the web, write and execute code, and interact with external APIs as part of its reasoning process. Enterprise customers can deploy Claude 4 in their own infrastructure for maximum data privacy.

Pricing is competitive at $12 per million input tokens and $48 per million output tokens for the API. Anthropic is positioning Claude 4 as the safest frontier model available, targeting enterprise and government customers who prioritize reliability and compliance.
